Women's Awareness Blog

As many of you, who have followed my blog in the past, know, I’ve been distracted by the intensive work of editing a novel, Shadow Dance, which is written in memory of my beloved daughter, who died as a result of a GHB poisoning, and, for whom this site is in memoriam. I am so thrilled to inform you that the work of editing is paying off. Shadow Dance has received literary mention, by the William Faulkner Literary Awards for 2015 Best Novel Honorable Mention!

It will not be long before Shadow Dance will be available in bookstores, as well as if you place a request here for a free copy once published in gratitude for following and supporting raising awareness of violence against women.

{January 11, 2015}   Product Recall…

Hello out there…You know, when you think about it, the media in general, the fashion industry, the porn industry, music & entertainment especially rap & ghetto music, even female artist like Lady gaga, Rhianna, etc, movies, stripping & pole dancing, rape and the whole criminal justice system concerning rape, body and facial surgery, black market prostitutes, predators, drugs especially date rape drugs, and alcohol….the list is long…but you get the picture…women in these scenarios are pawns at best at worse are a means to an ends..for

western patriarchal society submits to the whims of men. It creates a culture dominated by the whims of men. When everything clearly caters to the whims of men why change the laws? Why legislate more rights for women? Why not limit or take away women’s rights? Why not enslave women in a system that defeats them?

Why does century old violence against women persist throughout the world? It persist because it is the whims of men. Why are women exploited like commercial products? Because it further dehumanizes women, half of humanity.

Product recall REMINDING YOU raise your conscious awareness. Don’t be enslaved by dehumanizing systems and cultures. You’re the miracle you’re waiting for. Think of those 1.5 million people who took to the streets in Paris this morning to march against oppression by Jihadists. There were each the miracle. Equality to be whoever you are is a human right shared by ALL men and women. Be your own miracle. Own your sexuality without submitting to the whims of men. What’s your take? Weigh in.

I too have been drugged and raped, and, know, what it is and this woman’s story is soooo believable: http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/05/showbiz/bill-cosby-playboy-accusations/index.html?hpt=ju_c1

and then, there’s the woman who claims Cosby raped her when she was 15:  http://perezhilton.com/2014-12-05-bill-cosby-accuser-file-police-report-lapd-investigation#.VIOBg75N3zI.

OMG and this guy masquerades as ta decent human being, a good ol’ guy. It makes me sick.

What’s your story? What do you have to say?

These women were raped at a time in history when women were taught to hide the fact they’d been raped…they didn’t talk about it…it was shameful. When I told my mother in the late 60s my Dad’s work associate molested me, she said we weren’t ever to talk about it again. These women had these experiences in the 60s at the Playboy Mansion. Not, they raise their voices and cry out against the injustice they endured and, it echoes the systemic violence against women prevalent throughout the world, and includes the current trend of objectification of women for commercial ends or gains.

Well, let’s just shine the light right there and say no more shame no more blame. For where there is smoke there is likely fire. We need solutions. What’s yours?????????? Always open your heart to your sisters.

When I first read the police had a person of interest in the Hannah Graham case, there followed a sense of relief. But as the days ticked by and the POI went to the police without a lawyer, the police searched his apartment, and his car, and the investigation went on, the police never said what evidence they had to make the arrest. Here is what is known about the suspect last seen with Hannah: http://sync.democraticunderground.com/10025585938

Where is Hannah? Possibly anywhere between Charlottesville and Texas: http://www.wsls.com/story/26628837/charlottesville-police-chief-longo-keep-the-focus-on-finding-hannah

This morning I read an article that mentions two other women and a man who were assaulted in the same vicinity as Hannah Graham within a 48-hour timeframe of Hannah’s disappearance. The predator is reported to be a white male.

There may be more to this story than police have discovered as one of the victims is reported found near a railroad track “…unconscious—sleeping, or incapacitated…” which may well describe someone recovering from a date rape drug poisoning. The police didn’t indicate what the victim may have told them about the assault. http://www.c-ville.com/weekend-violence-wertland-area-rocked-alleged-assaults-days-around-hannah-grahams-disappearance/#.VCg1qUtN1uY Universities tend to be breeding grounds for predators.

IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING REGARDING HANNAH GRAHAM’S DISAPPEARANCE CONTACT THE CHARLOTTESVILLE POLICE: http://www.c-ville.com/arrest-police-double-search-hannah-graham/#.VCg8YUtN1uY

The reward for information leading to Hannah Graham has risen to $100,000. Anyone with any information that may be pertinent to the case should call the tip line at 295-3851 or visit a new tip website for the case at cpdtips@charlottesville.org.

STAY AWARE AND MAKE SELF-DEFENSE YOUR PRIORITY!

It has been fifteen years since my daughter was poisoned with GHB at a music studio and the incidents of GHB and date rape drugs to victimize and commit violence against women continues under the blind eye of a nation too tolerant to eradicate the behavior.

AWESOME!

When it gets right down to it there are only two emotions for men and women: LOVE and FEAR. All negativity flows from fear like aggression, assault, anger, hate, jealousy, envy, etc. Bringing negative energy and negative karma into the world. It’s a choice! Choose LOVE for all those whose lives are compromised or ended, daily, because of fear and drugs. Be Aware. Always take your BF with you. Never leave a drink unattended. Stay AWARE of your surroundings.

P.S. Still deeply involved in a deep edit of my manuscript, Shadow Dance, written in memory of my daughter, and soon to be posted and published.

BE ALL YOU CAN BE
Step out into the cool night air. Look at the stars. See how they shine. Know that is is okay for you to shine, too.
Who told you you had to hold back? Who told you your gifts, your talents, your beauty, [your sexuality]–your natural, beautiful, loving, delightful self–was wrong? Who told you not to be all you could be? Maybe, as some suggest, we’ve gotten too comfortable focusing on our flaws, our errors, our dark side. Perhaps its not our dark side we fear. Perhaps, we’re really afraid of our gifts, our brilliance, our light.
Now is a time of light. It’s time for us to shine. We’ve worked hard for ourselves, death with our issues, gone back to the past. We’ve learned our lessons well. The reasons to hold back and hide away are no longer there. Enjoy the fruits of your labors.
Be all you can be, and enjoy being that. Don’t hold back. Use your gifts with joy. Use your talen=ts. Let your light shine for all the world to see. Melody Beattie

Namaste

let’s not loose site of the real issue…the conscious decision to act predatorily…

I think in a prior post I may have said that only men rape and that may be true BUT THE MAJORITY OF MEN DO NOT RAPE… http://wagingnonviolence.org/feature/rape-rape-culture-problem-patriarchy/

and here’s what RAINN reports about the majority:

Men who do not rape but would be willing to rape if they were sure they would not be punished.
Men who do not rape but will not intervene when another man rapes.
Men who do not rape but buy sex with women who have been, or likely will be, raped in the context of being prostituted.
Men who do not rape but will watch films of women in situations that depict rape or rape-like acts.
Men who do not rape but find the idea of rape sexually arousing.
Men who do not rape but whose sexual arousal depends on feeling dominant and having power over a woman.
Men who do not rape but routinely masturbate to pornography in which women are presented as objectified bodies whose primary, or only, function is to provide sexual pleasure for men.
Those men are not rapists. But is that fact — that the men in these categories are not, in legal terms, guilty of rape — comforting? Are we advancing the cause of ending men’s violence against women by focusing only on the acts legally defined as rape— rape as an act of “forcible penetration” http://wagingnonviolence.org/feature/rape-rape-culture-problem-patriarchy/

— the research establishes that between 10.6 percent and 16.1 percent of American women have been raped. That means somewhere between 12 million and 18 million women in this country today live as rape victim-survivors, if we use a narrow definition of the crime.

THAT FACT IS STAGGERING> My beloved daughter, in whose memory I blog, was the victim of a predatory date rape drug (GHB)poisoning that induced her death within hours. The men who were responsible went free, un-prosecuted! My personal history includes being molested at age 5, 9, and 13, and raped at 16 and at 19 aided by a date rape drug. When I was 5 I didn’t tell anyone until I was almost 30 but even then the truth was ill received. I did not report the rapes. ..A rape culture doesn’t command men to rape, but it does make rape inviting, and it reduces the likelihood rapists will be identified, arrested, prosecuted, convicted and punished. http://wagingnonviolence.org/feature/rape-rape-culture-problem-patriarchy/

Why should we fear talking about the socialization process by which boys and men are trained to see themselves as powerful over women and to see women as sexual objects? THIS IS THE CONVERSATION I KEEP ASKING FOR. I’M NOT AFRAID TO ASK BECAUSE LADIES WE HAVE ONE CHANCE TO CHANGE HOW MEN PERCEIVE WOMEN AND IT BEGINS WHEN THE MAN IS A BABY AND THEN A BOY THAT IS WHEN HE IS LEARNING ABOUT RELATIONS<
HIPS…ABOUT LOVE AND HONOR..I SPEAK FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF MY OWN SON WHO BURIED A SISTER AND HAS BEEN RAISED BY A SINGLE MOTHER…HE LOVES AND HONORS WOMEN…MY SON IS CHIVALROUS…HE IS KIND AND CARING ABOUT WOMEN….SO I KNOW IT'S POSSIBLE. RAISE BOYS WHO LOVE AND HONOR WOMEN.

FORBES – The Ten Most Dangerous U.S. Cities for Women: http://www.forbes.com/sites/meghancasserly/2012/04/26/most-dangerous-us-cities-women-anchorage-fairbanks-flint/

GENDER BASED VIOLENCE: Violence against women and girls is one of the most disturbing aspects of living in a culture that promotes a hierarchy of power in human relationships according to class, race, and gender, among other divisions. In the United States, a woman is more likely to be assaulted, injured, raped, or murdered by a male partner than by any other type of attacker. According to the National Woman Abuse Prevention Project, approximately 3 to 4 million women are beaten each year and more than 1,000 women-an estimated 4 per day-are murdered by their husbands or partners…it is estimated that a woman is battered every 15 seconds…Sexual assault is considered to be the fastest growing yet least reported crime. According to statistics, a rape is committed every 6 minutes. …The phrase “a man’s home is his castle” sends a message that such violence is a private matter. http://www2.edc.org/WomensEquity/pubs/digests/digest-gbviolence.html

PRESIDENT OBAMA’S PLEAS TO MEN TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN – CHANGING A CULTURE OF RAPE: The president said a priority was to find ways to encourage more men to intervene when they see an attack or to report assaults. “I want every young man in America to feel some strong peer pressure in terms of how they are supposed to behave and treat women,” Mr. Obama said. “Men have to take more responsibility; men have to intervene,” he added. “The measure of manhood is willingness to speak up and speak out, and begin to change the culture.”

COLLEGE AGED WOMEN ARE THE HIGHEST RISK GROUP FOR DATE RAPE BY DRUGS OR ACOHOL: RAINN recommends (TO PRESIDENT OBAMA’S TASK FORCE) a three-tiered approach when it comes to preventing sexual violence on college campuses. A prevention campaign should include the following elements:
1. Bystander intervention education: empowering community members to act in response to acts of sexual violence.
2. Risk-reduction messaging: empowering members of the community to take steps to increase their personal safety.
3. General education to promote understanding of the law, particularly as it relates to the ability to consent. https://rainn.org/images/03-2014/WH-Task-Force-RAINN-Recommendations.pdf

What does all this mean? Well, one, if you’re female your have a one in four chance of being assaulted in your lifetime. But, if your are a college lady you also have a one in four chance of being raped, http://listen.nycagainstrape.org/learn.html, and it’s likely to be assisted by date rape drugs and alcohol. But rape and violence against women followed a fundamental shift in society from a matriarchal culture to a patriarchal society supported by a bible that designates woman the property of man lesser by alleged acts of Eve so, to say rape is a cultural phenomena diminishes the fact that violence against women is a global systemic fact of life. It will require a shift in consciousness for some men to eradicate predatorily instincts toward women and toward children. These are ancient issues acerbated by the prolific availability of drugs and alcohol available to men to subdue unsuspecting women and children. These predators are men. Only men perpetrate crimes and violence against women that spans the globe. The president clearly understands that raising the consciousness of men to act from their inherent goodness and align men in nobler roles towards women. It is but a small step for women but the journey begins with the first step. It’s a beginning. But it’s a systemic issue that must be eradicated at its root like slavery and other forms of prejudice and oppression. Talk about oppressive, look to other women throughout the third world and

other developing countries where violence against women is also engrained culturally as throughout the world. It is men who rape and prey on women.

It is a male issue in a world dominated by men. As women in America we can negotiate our rights through the legislative process and believe we are making gains. But, it seems we are negotiating what is ours as human beings regardless of gender. We have a right to be free from fear of our own friends, or favorite cousin, or uncle or father, or brother, or your dad’s business partner. They all might be a potential predator.

As women today in the present moment we must remain vigilant and always go out with a BFF and never leave drinks unattended, or take one from a stranger. And, above all we can strive to raise our sons to love and honor and respect women and all human beings and raise awareness of a woman’s right as a human being to live free from predatorily threats of random and premeditated acts of violence.
